of Toronto- 89 Chestnut General Information
Audio –Visual Equipment
We are pleased to offer the in-house convenience of a professional
Audio-Visual Company. All audio-visual rental arrangements may be
made with our Catering Department. If you choose to utilize an outside
A/V Company, general hook-up fees will apply.
Beverage Services
If alcoholic beverages are to be served on the premises, University
of Toronto’s Campus Beverage Service (CBS) and 89 Chestnut
will require that only University of Toronto employed servers and
bartenders dispense beverages. University of Toronto alcoholic beverage
license requires the CBS and University of Toronto employees to
(1) request proper identification of any person of questionable
age and refuse alcoholic beverage service if the person is either
under age (18 years of age or under) or proper identification cannot
be produced; (2) refuse alcoholic beverage service to any person
who, in the CBS’s and/or University of Toronto employees judgment,
appears intoxicated; (3) terminate beverage service at 1:00 a.m.
and ensure that all alcohol is removed from the function room by
1:30 a.m.
Decoration
Fresh floral arrangements and special theme decorations may be ordered
through the Catering Department. Streamers and confetti are prohibited
in the function rooms without the consent of the Catering Department.
A clean-up fee will be applied. Excessive noise must be approved
through the Catering Department.
Electrical Charges
Special electrical requirements can be arranged. Charges will be
based on the materials and labour involved and the power drain.
Special electrical requirements must be specified at least 72 hours
prior to your function.
Food
All food items must be supplied and prepared by University of Toronto,
89 Chestnut’s Culinary Team. Menu prices cannot be confirmed
more than 90 days prior to the function due to the daily fluctuations
of market prices.
Function Rooms
Function rooms are held only between the hours indicated on your
confirmation. University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut assigns function
rooms based on the guaranteed number of attendees. Final confirmation
can be made at the time the guarantee is given. All rooms are subject
to change. Any group that requires a room to be reset on the day
of function will be charged a minimum $100.00 re-setup fee.
Guarantees
It is a requirement that the Catering Office is notified of exact
number of attendees by noon, three working days prior to the event.
This minimum number of guests will be considered a guarantee for
which you will be charged, even if fewer guests attend. An increase
in the guaranteed attendance will be accepted up to 48 hours before
the function (72 hours on weekends). University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut’s
Culinary Team will set up 3% over the final guarantee figure; however
food is prepared for the guarantee only. If the Catering Office
receives no guarantee, we will then consider your last indication
of number of attendees as the guarantee.
Labour Charge
Additional carvers, station attendants, food and cocktail servers
are available at $15.00 per hour each (minimum of 4 hours).
Lost and Found
The Housekeeping Department administers the Lost and Found. The
University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut cannot be held responsible for
damage or loss of any personal property prior to or following your
banquet or meeting. Security arrangements should be made for all
merchandise set up prior to the planned event, or left unattended
for any time.
Package Receiving
The University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut will not accept
packages more than 48 hours prior to the start of a function. A
$10.00 handling fee will be assessed per box for unloading vehicles
and moving items to storage area and meeting rooms. The Catering
Department can recommend warehousing companies for large shipments.
Packages should be addressed to the meeting contact with attention
to 89 Chestnuts’ Catering or Convention Services Staff Member
working on the program, date and name of function scheduled in the
hotel.
Security
The University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut shall not assume responsibility
for the damage or loss of any merchandise left in the property prior
to or following the function. Arrangements may be made for the security
of exhibits, merchandise or articles set up for display prior to
the planned event.
Service Charge and Sales Tax
15% service charge and applicable Provincial Sales Tax and Goods
and Services Tax will be added to all food and beverage.
Signage
No signs are permitted in public areas of the property without prior
approval. Signs, banners or posters or any other items may not be
affixed to any wall, ceiling, door, etc. without advance permission
from the Director of Food & Beverage. All signage, which is
to be displayed in any public area, must be prepared professionally.
